The AXD340 switch is the smallest member of the AXD3x0
multiservice switch family , comprising also AXD310 Multiservice switch
and AXD320 Multiservice Access switch. It is a flexible and intelligent
Integrated Access Device (IAD), designed for installation at customer
premises. It is aimed at small to medium corporate sites requiring
access speeds at rates from nx64 kbit/s up to E1/T1.
The AXD340 enables the carrier or service provider to offer IP, Frame
Relay, ISDN, packet voice (VoATM/VoIP) and Circuit Emulation Services
to customer premises equipment. A wide range of transmission types
may be used on the network trunk side to connect the IAD to the carrier
or service provider core network.
In pure enterprise networks the AXD 340 can be used to deliver multiple
voice/data services to branch/remote sites over variety of access links
and interfaces..
The AXD 3x0 series supports a wide range of TDM based voice switching
protocols enabling ready integration of customer and carrier voice
equipment into an IP/ATM based core transport network. Integrated IP
routing capabilities enable interworking between TDM, ATM and IP environments.
VoIP signalling is also supported in two formats. SIP signalling is
used for interworking with third party standards based products and
PSTN gateways. PBXoIP, efficient proprietary signalling and transport
mechanism is used to economically interwork PBXs over IP preserving
full feature transparency.
AXD340 also features protocol conversion capabilities and can be used
e.g. as simple but powerful TDM/ISDN to SIP GW in multi-vendor environment.

| Some of the key AXD340 features: |
| |
-
Common feature set, protocol support
and management system with AXD310 and AXD320
-
TDM, ATM and VoATM, Frame Relay, IP
and VoIP (SIP and PBXoIP ) support for full featured voice and data
integration
-
Soft configuration for ATM, IP, Frame
Relay, ISDN, Leased Line emulation services. Wide range of interchangeable
interfaces allows one platform to support many applications
-
Support for 2- or 4-wire SHDSL access
trunk
-
Packet voice capability for 10-30
channels of compressed voice per box. Both VoATM (AAL2) and VoIP (SIP
and PBXoIP) are implemented
-
Embedded advanced Call Control for
number filtering and manipulation. Enables private numbering schemes
on VPNs to be used over public switched networks.
-
Traffic shaping ensures conformance
to ATM service traffic contracts
-
Supports feature-transparent voice
VPNs without the need to reprogram existing PBXs
-
ATM switching and bandwidth management
for cost effective bandwidth-on-demand and PSTN replacement services
over ATM access
-
Sophisticated Protocol Conversion
to enable easy interworking between disparate systems. e.g. A- to
µ-law, SIP-ISDN, DPNSS/DASS-Q.931, various other TDM-TDM conversions,
etc.
-
ATM UNI 3.1 and 4.0 supports connection
to backbone ATM with PVC, SPVC, PVP and SVC.
-
ATM support on sub-E1 (Nx64Kbps rates)
over E1 G.703/G.704, V.35, V.11/X.21 or SHDSL interfaces
-
In-band and out-of-band SNMP Management
access
-
Local control and diagnostics port
for rapid on-site service
-
Flash memory provides high-speed non-volatile
storage, supporting remote download of operating software and configuration
